One could suggest that you are also quite serious about linkbuilding

SEO is vital to survival.....what more can one say?

If you’re serious about finding the people who are already looking for you, SEO is a crucial element of any search marketing campaign when looking to capture your target audience.

Depends how you define SEO!

Unfortunately, there is too much information over-load regarding SEO and most of it is total rubbish.

On the other hand if you define SEO as "Self Education Online" it's quite a simple formula:

1 Find a marketable niche you are passionate about.

2 Research your keywords. I recommend Wordtracker.com.

3 Research and study how to lay-out your website to make it search engine friendly. This includes lay-out of keywords, titles and content within your web pages. I recommend XsitePro.com and the Sitepoint.com/kits/sem2/

4 Acquire some quality back-links by writing professionally written articles and submitting them to authority sites that are related to your websites theme.

5 Most importantly, be patient to see results.

I agree with that Mikaela,
I am serious with SEO that I want to invest my time on it, I am serious with SEO that I want to earn big big amount of cash.
That's how serious I am with SEO.

On the other hand if you define SEO as "Self Education Online" it's quite a simple formula:
No... just... no...

You don't get to go around changing the contextual expansion of acronyms. That's precisely what contributes to the confusion!

SEO, in the context of affiliate marketing (which last time I checked is what this forum is about), is Search Engine Optimization.
If you start telling people differently, you're the one creating the confusion.

In so far as there being a lot of conflicting information out there... Yes, there is. But that's because a lot of the information used to be right. It just isn't anymore as the search companies get a bit smarter about how they organise things.
i.e. Keyword stuffing - you used to be able to stick anything in the keyword meta-tag, and provided it was repeated ad nauseum on the page, you'd rank well. Of course, that hasn't worked in nearly a decade.

Modern tactics such as auto-blogging, contextual-semantic anchor text linking, and even social engineering with linkbait, are what works currently... but probably won't soon enough.

The problem is that people new to AM, or actually using the internet properly in general, have no idea how to accurately filter information, and instead merely go with their confirmation biases or naive assumptions.

Back to the main argument: If you're doing anything that you want to go long term with, SEO is key, but doing everything the "white hat" way is going to get you left in the dust unless you have some serious innovation or linkbait going on.

Focus on SEO, but as you're starting up, ensure that you're also doing plenty of advertising, both on and offline. It pays dividends.

I think with every kind of job handed to us, we have to take it seriously and do it with all determination. It's a blessing you know. As for me, I take SEO very seriously because I learn a lot from it..and earn money from it. No matter what your job is, as long as it's legal, treasure it!

Mmm - well theres something in that sentiment, beside your promotional links in your first and second post.

Still, as long as something is legal doesnt mean its OK. The Spanish Inquisition was legal and did some rather horrendous things during their time effecting history painfully, up until their resurection by Monty Python.

Being an executioner in the US prison system is legal. I think in Vietnam its legal and culturally supported (except by the Buddists ) to torture cows mercilessly before eating them for apparently a better taste. It was legal in Australia not really very long ago to shoot aboriginal men who left the property they were working on though not properly feed, house or pay them if they didnt run away. Much worse was done to the women without legal interference. So dont really know if the argument, "as long as its legal" holds great weight in terms of blessings.

For me, seo is what puts food on my table...I provide services as well as use it for my IM ventures. It is what brings traffic. Remember: there is nothing called "free traffic" as you will find being told every where.

I agree with Armand. It is what the basics of IM is, but unfortunately a lot of people get lost in the information that is loaded onto them.

Anything I don't have professionally designed and build myself is done through xsite - it has a few niggles, but overall it really is a very, very good product...

I have not used SEO very seriosul, yet because of my content, my websites found exactly for the terms of what people are searching for.
I have a website local for an area that is 8 years old, not updated in the past 5 years, didn't even know about SEO then, yet generates more than all my 'successful looking' websites. It's the niche markets that help just a few meta keywords, no back links, no blog, just a simple 10 page website conatiningrelevant content of the local area with pictures and with a two affiliate links!
