Default New and hoping to learn.

Hi everyone,

I'm a 24 year old marketing and web design student, and I am interested in learning about affiliate marketing and potentially "getting into it" as an income source once I have learned enough about it. I understand that self education, trial and error and hard work are integral to success in affiliate marketing, so I am here to further my education!

I have spent a lot of time reading about this and to be honest I am finding it hard to separate the "snake oil" hyperbole from the legitimate resources.

I am not new to online publishing. I have experimented with a number of blogs for my degree and in each instance have managed to build a fair amount of traffic in a short period or time and have maintained regular hits on ones that aren't updated regularly. However I'll admit that this was before I learned about a lot of the intricacies of SEO, and was largely the result of networking my blog with others in my niche circle.

I have a number of areas I feel I can write about competently however I am somewhat stumped at how one goes about choosing affiliates to promote and especially how linking is used without offending Google or being unintentionally unethical.

Any advice as to good reading resources on the subject would be greatly appreciated!

I look forward to chatting with you all in future!

FD

Welcome freshdew.

I wouldn't get too hung up on "the rules".

If it feels right to you, then go ahead and do it. If your intentions are good, then it will work out.

(Signing up to ClixGalore, DGM and Adsense would be a step in the right direction for Australian traffic).

I just realised that I posted this in entirely the wrong location! I apologise.

Thanks for the welcome, Newbie.

I have looked at ClixGalore, but to be honest, I am still a little unclear on how it all works.

In terms of niche marketing, I know I can write about photography, event design and planning, wedding planning, home renovation and interior decorating, fashion and beauty, travel. I know a lot of this seems trite in terms of subject matter, but it is information a lot of people search for and that the related products are popular for online shoppers.

What I don't know is whether there are event affiliate programs for these services and how to find out whether those I can see can be used by Australians.

I am happy to write targeted sites for the Australian market and for the global market - but I am not sure if that is problematic?

Obviously I can write about other areas - digital and social media for example - but I am not sure if that is a bit oversaturated in terms of the market?

Obviously, I have a lot to learn!

Thanks again for the kind welcome, Newbie.

Thousands of merchants (advertisers) <--> Networks (like Clixgalore) <--> thousands of affiliates (publishers)

The network charges an oncost of about 25% (in CG's case) to act as an intermediary between affiliates and merchants. The network amalgamates myriad payments from diverse sources into a single monthly bank transfer. It would not be economic to attempt to manage these relationships individually. The merchant pays the oncost.

Thanks for the explanation - that really does help.

I have to set up a new Paypal account (mine was hacked or something and it won't let me update to my new credit card details) and will join up as a starting point.
