Default Advice needed on domain

I am after some advice before purchasing the domain for a new site. I definitely want .au as it will have Australian content for Australian traffic.

I would prefer .com.au (instead of .net.au) because I think it is easier for people to remember, but the site isn't really acting as a company as such, more of just providing updated information on a regular basis - like a blog.

What I would like to know is what does everybody else out there do with their "blog-style" sites? Are they .com.au's?

Thanks

Craig

I would recommend the .au (assuming you are eligible - ABN, etc)
My experience is most people have figured out that .au = "its Australian" and .com, etc = "its foreign, and probably American"
Decide what you want your message to be, and pick your domain name from that.
A lot more .com.au names available than .com, too

Thanks leadegroot

I had already decided on the .au (I have abn) but was more concerned with the .com.au versus .net.au.

I don't want the site to appear as I am "running a company", I am merely providing information. Does that make sense? I just wondered how many blogs out there might have .com.au?

In any case, I will probably get the .com.au merely for people being able to remember it more than .net.au.

Thanks

The .net.au is relatively uncommon in .au
Not sure why
Possibly because names are easier to get so people haven't had to 'resort' to .net, unlike the GTLD (global top level domain) space
At any rate, I wouldn't worry too much that people will think 'company', as there is no real option for 'info' (I wish they would release info.au, but its probably too late )

If you were to decide on the .net.au, I would also get the .com.au and 301 redirect it to the .net.au

You do know you can get a id.au for your personal name, if this is a personal project?
eg http://bhatt.id.au/
Have to use your name (first name, surname, both or nickname) for the domain, not the project name, though

Thanks again leadegroot

I always wanted the .com.au - just wasn't sure if it was appropriate or not, but looks like I can get what I wanted!

Thanks for all the info

I would definitely take the .com.au - it's the standard in Australian domains.
