| | Banner Links - Photo links? Hi.
Lets say i wish to display ads for an affiliate such as Freemanx. Now i understand that i can request a banner, thats placed where it goes and traffic goes to them, via me, to their home page.
Now i also understand that i can deeplink to say, Hot Laps in a car. The banner will send to the deeplink url.
Now lets say i was doing a blog on Freemanx, wanted to capture a picture of the car (mentioned above) and display that in the blog. I can obviously make a hyperlink so visitors can click through to Freemanx, but how would i make my affiliate hyperlink so that sales are recorded for us? Can this be done? Is there like a general affiliate link or something.
This way im displaying a photo of the product, rather than displaying a banner. But obviously the affiliate link is the question.
Appreciate any assistance or advice. |

To do this, use the merchant's generic text link and append "&AffDirectURL=Your deep link" to it.
So a Freemanx Hot laps deeplink would look something like this: Quote: |
http: // www. clixGalore .com /PSale.aspx?BID=31767&AfID=57668&AdID=4527&AffDirec tURL=www.freemanx.com.au%2Fexperiences_detail.cfm% 3Fprodid%3D1087
| Quote: |
NB I had to put spaces in that link to stop it from working
| Just change the AfID=57668 to your own affiliate ID and it will work just fine.
Note that the deeplink is url encoded - some sites need url-encoding so we just url-encode them all.
You can find a url-encoder here.

| | Hi Snooks - just use your general affiliate ID for this merchant - that would work if you just want a general tracking link.

| | Thanks guys.
I dont understand all of what you said, i will read and then re-read and if i dont understand again, i can post for clarification.
What i might do is do a blog entry along these lines, try and work out the code and then get you guys to confirm it. That way, i will have done it and learnt and if i stuff up, you can save my bacon (LOL).
Will post in a day or two when i have done it and thanks for the info. |

| | Just following up on this and requesting some info. Using this product for example: Facial at Home, Sydney - NSW : Gift Ideas from FreemanX
Now lets assume i want to use this product. I have a banner and tracking code forr freemanx,
<A href="http://www.clixGalore.com/PSale.aspx?BID=32130&AfID=205646&AdID=4527&LP=www. freemanX.com.au">
<img src="http://www.is1.clixgalore.com/cgd.aspx?BID=32130&AfID=205646&AdID=4527" border="0" height="250" width="300" alt="FreemanX - AUS"></A>
So i copy the image of the lady getting a facial, i assume i host in photobucket and use that code for the image. Now i want the image to go to the Freemanx page deeplink, not using the banner, but the image.
Would someone be able to modify the url for me and paste it into their reply. This will allow me to see it, see what has been done and then i can use that as a template of sorts.
Its just that rather than have banners everywhere, using a product image make invoke, or should i say, will certainly invoke more "feelings", hence the chances of clickthroughs. I appreciate it wont record data as good as banners, but in many circumstances it will work better.
On a secondary issue, i wanted to use that build a website page, i chose the merchant and feed and it sent me a zipped file. I unzipped into a folder and yes, theres heaps of products and stuff. But exactly what am i supposed to do now, to build the "webpage".?
I understand these are basic questions but even searching the tutorials, well im no better off.
Many thanks in advance to anyone that chooses to reply and assist me. It will be greatly appreciated |

You should use the first generic text link for deeplinks. The reason why you would do this is because sometimes a merchant will deactivate a stale image banner (breaking your link) but the first generic text link can never be disabled or deleted (although it can be prevented from being shown to newly-joined affiliates). Even if it is removed from view it should still work.
The first generic text link looks like this with the text SNIPPED: Quote:
<!-- Begin clixGalore Code-->
<img src="http:// www.is1.clixgalore. com/Impression.asp?BID=32130&AfID=205646&AdID=4527" width="0" height="0" border="0">
<A href="http:// www.clixGalore. com/PSale.aspx?BID=32130&AfID=205646&AdID=4527&LP=www. freemanX .com.au"><SNIP TEXT></A>
<!-- End clixGalore Code-->
| This is the only part you want out of it: Quote: |
http : // www. clixGalore. com/PSale.aspx?BID=32130&AfID=205646&AdID=4527
| I would not put images on photobucket, someone might buy it and close it, breaking your whole site.
Either host them on your own site or link to the merchants site. (Most merchants will not mind if you use their images to sell their products providing you do nnot use MerchantA's images to sell MerchantB's products. If in doubt, ask). (Most merchants will not mind if you leave the images on their site and just link to the images. If in doubt, ask).
In the example the image is hosted from the merchant's site.
Next step is to url-encode the deeplink. This is a good habit to get into even though it is not necessary for every merchant's site. Quote: |
http : // www. freemanx. com.au/experiences_detail.cfm?prodid=1127
| (remove "http : //" ---> Quote: |
www. freemanx. com.au/experiences_detail.cfm?prodid=1127
| URLencode ---> Quote: |
www. freemanx. com.au%2Fexperiences_detail.cfm%3Fprodid%3D1127
| Put it together with "&AffDirectURL=" ---> Quote: |
<a href="http://www.clixGalore.com/PSale.aspx?BID=32130&AfID=205646&AdID=4527&AffDire ctURL=www.freemanx.com.au%2Fexperiences_detail.cfm %3Fprodid%3D1127><img src="YOUR IMAGE URL"></a>
| Then test it before publishing it.
Your other question in regard to data feeds should come later. A data feed is just product information, deeplinks and image urls provided by the merchant.

| | Hi again Newbee.
OK, i did the step by step and i believe that i got a useful encoded url. It seemed to work. I would post it here but now i have lost it (LOL). The main point was learning how so thats not an issue.
You didnt like linking to PB and i can see and understand why, but you said to link to the manufacturers site. How? I tried copying url etc but when i was trying to insert the image url in WP blog, a red X kept diplaying.
Hate to ask and probably something really stupid, but being a newbee......well (duh).
Please explain how to link url to site. No rush, just when you get a chance and then i can complete the test case, post url, get it confirmed and we are done.....then i know what to do everytime
Many thanks. |
