Directory Submission

Just wondering if anyone uses Directory Submission for their sites and what services or sites they have used to submit? (That is assuming you didn't individually go to 100+ directories asking for a listing....I don't really have the time or inclination to do that)

Was there a cost or was it a free service?

If you're on about search engine submissions etc - I really wouldn't bother... Any directory/search engine worth their salt will find you anyway - and if they don't/can't then there is either a major problem with your site or they operate some basement concern that they promote as being a search engine...

And don't whatever you do believe any of the nonsense about guaranteed placements as there is no such thing.

If you think your site offers real value to the internet, then you could try submitting it to DMOZ (dmoz.org) as people like Google rather like people listed there...

Thanks Marlnet. Yeah I know they are of very limited value. But I have seen that companies like Netregistry and other SEO companies still offer it as part of their SEO package. The benefits may be extremely limited, but if the consequences aren't negative then maybe it's worth $10 or $20? Then again maybe not! I'm interested in what experiences people have had.
Relevant content is of course the key to successful SEO and the front page Google results I have are all based on content and not some get-rich-quick directory submission scheme!

Agree with Marlnet and I think they do you more harm than good.

Think about it.

Netregistry is a company that herds in thousands of customers. No matter what Netregistry does, it does not matter, it cannot benefit all of their client base. Everybody cannot win.
