Default Your First Affiliate Conversion

I remember my first ever affiliate conversion - It was in 2004 with a Uk company called BuyAGift through AffiliateWindow - I had just created a website from scratch with 400 odd pages (All HTML and no database) with info from a datafeed. I had no experience of web design or programming but managed to find a template and tweeked it in a dodgy copy of dreamweaver with templates. It took me about two months of blood, sweat and tears to get it looking ok with pages linked (Plus constant updating because it was updated by hand), then google found it. On May 27th 2004 I logged into AffiiateWindow - and there it was... a comission of 4.64 uk pounds. I have never felt such a great feeling of knowing this was my first real self earnt cash all by myself... the rest they say is history.

Can you remmebr yours?

Tim

LOL - It was an inspiration at the time - and great satisfaction - I was just looking at a new challenge after one of my mates started raking it in 1999 with a hotel site

I cannot remember the conversions but I can remember what my wife said when the first cheque arrived. About $20 after four or five months work.

She said, "It's not much".

These days, if I see NetBanking open as I walk past, I say, "It's not much".

in October 2005 I launched my very own hand coded website called win big:

Win Big.com.au Australia's number one source of online competitions. (link goes to archive.org's recollection of that memorable day!!)

It was my pride and joy, oh how the colours blended so seemlessly, the montage (if my own design thank you ) sold the winning feeling LOLOLOLOLOL

It was something like a $200 investment in adwords returned $450 via the networks and I guess the rest is history

Well I started in 2004 with a website http://www.bokaap.co.za, a place I lived in and worked in as a tour guide in South Africa. By chance I found an affilliate 'thing', I placed an affiliate link from http://www.safarinow.com for accommodation bookings, I had no web experience, still have much, I had no idea about SEO, just knew I wanted a website. I placed meta tags and got some free advertising in the main city newspaper through an editorial, being a female who launched a website, inspiring other women to go into IT.

In time Europeans who visited Bo Kaap, looked at the website through Google, prior to visiting the area, then added the site as links to their site or made reference in various travel websites. I made about US$15 month in commissions within a month of launch, not much but it was something. Later I placed a few google ads as described by google 'heat maps' and can say I cannot give up that website. Looking back I was so ignorant, yet lucky.

Keeping with my passions in life of travel, tourism and helping others, as well as help from the forum thus far, I am soon launching http://www.ozarrivals.com. I know travel is not what people are doing, but immigration and those looking to migrate to Australia is bigger than I expected.

Good Luck to everyone out there, there's opportunity for everyone. oh, I still remember my first cheque from google wondering if my bank would accept that it was vaild???

Great thread Tim.

Congratulation Gavin, all the best for many more.

After months of dilly dallying with some friends in 2006 we finally came up with an idea to promote. We ran some Adwords and I was astounded that after a few days we got a sale. I was over the moon!

Then a couple of days later another sale. I think I stopped counting when we got to about 15. But I still remember the initial thrill of seeing another sale come through in the early days and quickly emailing my friends.

And I still think I feel the excitement of seeing a sale come in, especially if it's a new project or a new idea that is seeing results.
