Im making a golf site as ive been in the industry for a long time and i feel i have alot of info.
My main question is , should i put all that info into one large site, or should i split it up into a few sites.
If i split it up the im concerned im in the ten page range (again not sure if this is a good thing or not)
I do understand if i split them up it will cost more to make the sites but im not worried about that at this time.
thanks in advance. |
Damien, without looking back to your earlier posts, I think you have written quite a bit about the golf background and your desire to make a golf site. Ikonic pointed out that there is much to know about multiple linking sites.
I am aware now that the best thing is to just throw yourself into building a site (thanks to advice from Marlnet and BCL). You have it seems a great background in golf and it is a wonderful thing to build a website related to all the knowledge you have aquired.
Outside of the commercial future of your site just building it and in a sense rehashing your knowledge, expressing it - will be a fullfilling and positive experience. It will lead to something worth while. Just go too! Once you do you will see that ten pages goes quite quickly but at least if you start there you can create an information rich yet not overloaded site.
For all my questions on this forum I have known one steady thing - do work which is close to your heart, which gives you some excitement and joy. Start at the centre of things. Start where you have some strong connection. As Joseph Cambell said - "follow your bliss".
You now have made up your mind to do the golf site - start it and then see how it goes. Still ask questions about future applications, possible consequences etc but also get going on the site.
Ten page, I think, is a useful starting point. As you go you'll start to find a particular focus of the site (not just about golf but a certain aspect of golf which your site offers). You'll do the site, re- do the site, turn off from the site, come back to the site with renewed vision and youll eventually come out with something great. Kinda like playing golf.

Ps, having now quickly looked back at some of your threads I see your last questions were re free or not free hosting. If you have the option to start free you can build your skills, play around and not really loose anything. It wont be long before you will see the horrible restrictions of a free web site and you will want to upgrade. Free websites often have large ugly banners from the hosting company which both take up space and wreck the look of your site to some extent. Pay a little a month and the advertising is under your control. I have a ten page site which all up costs me $100 for the year. Thats so not much. I have options for a shopping cart, secure payment for clients, all widgets, heaps of styles and templates to choose from, some crappy flash options but can download my own,24 hr help on a local phone call etc.
