Agreed.

The only way to make money from a blog is to actually have something to say that people really want to hear.
And you're not the one that gets to decide that.
You either have to be able to get scoops in one industry or another, or have some seriously good writing panache that gets people talking about your witty insights into something.

AFTER that, you can start hocking stuff via affiliate links... but even then, you're gonna lose a large chunk of your audience for "selling out".

unfortunately thats the truth. and deciding what viral information people find interesting or amusing is the hard part. Try writing about something you know more about then the majority of people around you.

Default Blogging Social Networking etc etc

The whole Web2.0 thing, blogging and social networking, changes in networking on the whole is all a bit bewildering don't you think? Everything used to be a whole lot easier and certainly less time consuming.

I read an article from Jill Whalen (SEO guru) this morning about how it's easy to get put off.

She suggested stop trying so hard and be yourself. Don't do the hard sell. Make friends, show who you are and people will be atracted to you. From there you build the network and throw in the pitch once people are comfortable. Referrals go from there.

I suppose what you really need is to have something to say that will benefit others.

true, true, take a look at some successful blogs like www.dannychoo.com which gets over 12,000 hits every day.. I'm not sure if looking at his site will motivate you or make you green with envy and once they are good they automatically get advertised.. like I just advertised it.
I have a few sites, some of which at the time of writing are still in start up mode, 2 of them are: www.sydneyfriends.tv and www.affiliatenetworkman.com
I had some comments about affiliatenetworkman in this part of the forum: http://www.affiliateforum.com.au/for...=4820#post4820 it was kind of interesting

To write well about something you really need to have a passion (or interested at least) for it rather than trying to make money from products that you think will sell.

When you have a passion for something the words come easily and it doesn't feel like work so much. When you're trying to work with something you have no interest in at all it can feel like really hard work! I know this from experience!

I used to advocate the same position... But now I'll research and write about anything really - work is work at the end of the day...

(And if it's too ****ty for me, I get the partner to do it - I am a busy man after all...)
